Weird Dreamweaver bug

Do you have Dreamweaver 8 (might happen in MX or MX2004 as well)? Open up a CSS file (make sure all your other files are saved).

Make a few rules in the file. Now right before the closing } on one of your rules, add an apostrophe ( ‘ ), and hit save.

If your setup is anything like mine, you should see Dreamweaver disappear, and you cant get it open again. Nice, Macromedia. Real nice.

Anyways, to get it to where you CAN open DW again, open that CSS file and remove the offending apostrophe.

I have no idea why this happens, but it sent me for a 10 minute loop.…

The coming oil crash

Well, not really. I was reading Life After the Oil Crash a few years ago, and even hear Matt on Coast to Coast back in September.

For those that don’t know, the site is a doom and gloomer, predicting the downfall of civilization as we know it, because we’re running out of oil. At first, he seemed to make a convincing argument, and mentally I was already preparing for what life would be like if technology scaled back 100-200 years.

But after some thought, I realize Matt has political motivations for saying what he says. I am sure he believes it, but I think he believes it because it

  1. Allows him to promote his pro-abortion stance
  2. Paints mankind as a vomitous wart upon the Earth
  3. Allows him to engage in the always entertaining fear-mongering

Matts argument flows something like this:
Society runs on oil. We eat, drink, sleep, drive, communicate, and live because of oil, and with oil. Since it is running out, society is going to collapse.

He doesnt believe that there will be a technological solution in time, and that we’re pretty much screwed.

I have to disagree with Matt for quite a few reasons, and I happen to think we’ll be just fine.
Here’s why:

  1. Human knowledge is exponential. In 100 years, we’ve gone from first using a lightbulb, to space travel, instantaneous worldwide communication, splitting the atom,

Mosley v. Vargas

Well, I’m not sure how many of you are into boxing, but tonight there looks to be a pretty decent fight coming on PPV.
Now, this fight would have been way more exciting about 5 years ago, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.
For those that don’t know, Shane Mosley is going to be fighting Fernando Vargas.

Let me say, going into this, I am completely biased. I used to be the webmaster for the Mosley’s, as well as personal friends, and let’s just say things got "legal".

So, that being said, let’s get into the fight.

My gut says Shane will win. Part of me thinks Vargas could pull an upset, but I see this fight going one of two ways.

Really exciting, or really really boring. I think Vargas will be aggressive, and not try to box, which, for Shane, always makes a good fight, but I wonder if Shane will take advantage of the openings.

Chains chin is completely tested, but Vargas’ is a bit suspect. However, Vargas has weight and general size of Shane, so I can’t see a knockout, really.

Now, here’s to hoping its a memorable 12 rounds :)

American Idol

For the last four seasons, I have NOT been an American Idol fan, at all. Frankly, the only person who has really done anything with their celebrity, and actually produced decent music, has been Kelly Clarkson. The rest, especially Fantasia and Rueben have really kinda just grated on my nerves (Clay Aiken was good, but his style was just very appealing to the AARP crowd).
This season, though, there is some REALLY great and original talent. Right now, I have 4 people from both girls and guys that I can see winning, and right fully so.
The first two people on each list are my personal ties for the top spot, with the first of each list being the artist/musician, and the second person on each list being great talents, but also likable more than anything.
So, without further ado, here we go.

Guys

  1. Taylor Hicks
What cant you say about this guy? Astounding musician, and very atypical. He is not someone I would see winning American Idol, because of his style and looks, but he is just such a good musician, you cant help but enjoy him and his music.
  2. Chris Daughtry
This guys style is much more to my liking, though I’ve always wondered if a rocker-type was right for American Idol.
However, this guy has something that sets him apart from everyone else, and it’s his personality.

PureVolume.com

Okay, I am probably so insanely behind the times on this one, but seriously, PureVolume just freakin rocks. Seriously rocks.

Also, it has a really slick design courtesy of Ryan Sims @ Neubix Studios.

I’ve found some really awesome stuff there, but my personal fave of the moment is Bleed The Dream. Check out their song Who’s Killing Who. Great stuff….…

Us Whiny Christians

Well, it turns out that Britney Spear’s forthcoming appearance on Will & Grace is causing quite the stir, and NOT because of Britney’s acting.
A conservative Christian group, and yes, I am a conservative Christian, is complaining that NBC is "denigrating Christians".

I am sorry, but a Christian cooking segment called Crucifixins? That’s freakin hilarious! And I am NOT a fan of Will & Grace.

Since when did we turn in such a whiny bunch of babies? Even if they’re motive is to attack us, I hardly think poking fun at us is cause to get into an uproar.
I mean, seriously, with what the early Christians went through, I hardly think this compares. You don’t see them sacrificing actual Christians, and feeding them to live lions for entertainment, do ya?

And since when can we not laugh at ourselves?

Rail against the message of Will & Grace, disagree with it’s potrayal of the gay lifestyle, disagree with the politics, but sheesh, don’t become so narrow that you can’t laugh.…

Helen Thomas is an idiot…

So, Helen Thomas was shunned by President Bush at a press conference, because she was going to ask some "tough" questions of the president.
"She also had another question at the ready, just in case, this one about the president’s contention that a 28-year-old wiretapping law known as FISA is out of date, which prompted him to order the National Security Agency to conduct a secret electronic surveillance program that Democrats contend is illegal. ‘You keep saying it’s a 1978 law, but the Constitution 200 years old. Is that out of date, too?’"

Okay moron, the Constitution isn’t centered around technology. What a freaking misdirection.  Technology doesn’t change whether someone has the freedom of speech, or freedom from a state religion, etc.
However, many of the wiretapping bills were written during the rotary phone era, and were never extended to cell phones, and newer systems.
So when technology moves past the scope of the letter of the law, the law is out of date.

Her other "I was gonna ask him!" question is just as retarded, and misleading.

Helen Thomas, please spend your free time actually thinking before you speak. You’d save the rest of us the need to laugh at your inane statements.

Thank you.…

L.A. Times writer doesn’t support the troops

It appears that Joel Stein doesn’t support the troops. I personally don’t see what all the hoopla is about.
Frankly, I can respect the fact that he doesn’t support a group of people he opposes. I think it’s a tad retarded whenever senators blast the president, but "support the troops". Support them doing what? Following the president’s orders? Just say you hate em all, and get it over with.

I, however, disagree with Joel Stein. I think the war in Iraq was justified, even without WMD’s, but the fact that all my fellow conservatives are getting all pissy because this guy doesn’t support what the troops are doing is a bit ridiculous. I can guarantee you that any politician, celebrity, or other moron that is against the war sure as crap hates the military for doing what they’re doing.
At least Stein is honest about admitting it.…

What if?

I’ve been thinking about Iraq and Iran situations, and I was wondering.
What if the entire war with Iraq wasnt about oil, wasnt about WMD’s, wasnt about Sadaam at all? What if the entire thing was about Iran, and Iraq was a decoy to set up a base of operations from which to engage in war with Iran?

Let’s walk through how that would play out:
It’s 2002, and you have intel that says that Iran is working with the Russians to enrich uranium for the purpose of building nukes.
You have Hussein, who you know wouldnt mind taking the opportunity to join with Iran in a conflict with the US. You have the Saudi’s who might allow the use of airspace, but doubtful that they would want too much involvement for fear of their neighbors firepower. You have Russia, who is helping enrich the uranium, so you know what side they’re on.

So what do you do?

In any street confrontation, there is usually some guy, usually the shortest, who is running his mouth constantly, firing everyone up. He’s got the small dog complex, the Napoleonic complex, and is just running around trying to make you look bad.

So you sock him in the mouth. Or in this case, take him out, and institute a democracy. Now, you have a Western friendly base from which to attack Iran in …

If only people left their email’s for me to respond to…

Here is what I got in the mail today:

"man, anti-abortion but pro capital punishment. not right. you go on about the death of an innocent in the womb yet have you considered the death of an innocent on death row? it happens. it has happened. it will happen again. if the death of one innocent is alright when you kill some guilty too, then i guess you can sleep easy at night.

sick."

Just a few points to make on this one:

  1. Innocents die on death row? Really, when? I’d like to see a case or two of people who were executed and later exonerated since we reinstituted the death penalty in 1977.
  2. But, even if we have executed an innocent person, while that is a terrible occurrence, that does not invalidate the death penalty. It simply means we need to use current technologies (eg DNA testing, advanced forensics, etc) to their fullest to make sure we have the right man.
  3. If you’re so dead set against capital punishment because an innocent MIGHT be killed, then surely you’re against driving, as there are confirmed cases of innocents dying on the roads all the time, or against alcohol, or against electricity, and on and on and on.
  4. And no, Im not comparing capital punishment to driving, I am saying that in all human endevours, mistakes get made, and sometimes, those mistakes cost
